Sharona made history as the first Iranian-American woman to serve as Mayor of Beverly Hills, representing the city with a residents-first leadership approach focused on safety, fiscal responsibility, and community unity.

Public Safety, Emergency Preparedness, and Technology

  • Maintained public safety and security as a top priority, contributing to a reduction in crime of at least 20%.

  • Advanced cutting-edge public safety technology, including BHPD Live Link and Drone-in-a-Box, providing critical real-time information that strengthens emergency response and keeps Beverly Hills ahead of the curve.

  • Supported the AIBlue Scribe pilot to streamline police reporting, increasing efficiency and allowing officers to return to the field more quickly.

  • Launched BH FireWatch, an innovative fire detection and monitoring camera AI initiative focused on early warning and hillside protection.

  • Led a citywide evacuation preparedness efforts, including the Trousdale evacuation drill, encouraging resident participation and reinforcing readiness in a fire-prone environment.

  • Strengthened public safety infrastructure through funding for a Police Safety Center, expanded CCTV coverage, eight new uniformed officer positions, enhanced lighting, and dedicated cleaning crew at Metro stations.


Transparency, Accessibility, and Resident Engagement

  • Advanced a resident-first approach, bringing City Hall closer to the community by creating more opportunities for residents to share their views, ideas, and concerns.

  • Launched “Straight Talk with Sharona,” a monthly public forum where residents asked questions, raised concerns, and engaged directly with city leadership and staff.

  • Created “In the Know with Mayor Nazarian,” a transparency and public education series in partnership with the Beverly Hills Historical Society, highlighting city history, city programs, and the issues shaping Beverly Hills’ future.

  • Expanded community connection through “Sunday Socials with Sharona,” fostering meaningful conversations and connections across generations, and keeping residents, especially seniors and teens, informed and engaged.


Community Unity and Civic Engagement

  • Made UNITY a defining theme to bring the Beverly Hills community together and build bridges across all backgrounds.

  • Created “Shining in Beverly Hills,” recognizing residents, organizations, and unique contributions that uplift and strengthen our community.

  • Launched “A Moment of Unity” at City Council meetings, creating a dedicated space for reflection and connection.

  • Hosted “Evening of Unity,” bringing together residents and Consuls General from 25 countries to celebrate culture, talent, and cuisine while strengthening global and local connections.

  • Elevated civic observances and programming for Memorial Day, Independence Day, MLK Day, and other key moments, fostering reflection, unity, and civic pride.


    Fiscal Responsibility and City Governance

  • Led efforts to enhance efficiency and accountability through reducing commission redundancy, modernizing the City Handbook, streamlining priority setting, and implementing zero-based budgeting for the Capital Improvement Program.

  • Took a lead role in long-range planning, Metro/community security, minimizing event spending, branding/licensing, Chamber of Commerce work, and LA 2028/FIFA preparation. 


Local Business, Economic Vitality, and the Beverly Hills brand

  • Leveraged “Spotlight with Sharona” to drive direct engagement and economic activity in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and Beverly Hills businesses, recognizing that business success generates the revenue needed to support public safety, infrastructure, and quality of life.

  • Promoted Beverly Hills as a world-class business, tourism, and cultural destination while preserving community character.

  • Continued to build Beverly Hills’ profile through external speaking and civic engagement roles, including national and international visibility. 


Education, Remembrance, and Cultural Leadership

  • Created “Never Again Is Now,” focused on Holocaust remembrance, Jewish identity, and combating hate, discrimination, and antisemitism. 

  • Hosted and promoted broader interfaith and cross-cultural dialogue. 

  • Elevated women’s leadership and empowerment programming through “Women Owning Their Future”. 


Innovation, Youth, and Future Planning

  • Founded “Sharona’s Innovation Circle,” to bring young professionals and emerging leaders into civic conversations about Beverly Hills’ future. 

  • Used innovation and technology as a governing theme, including support for AI-enabled public safety tools, smarter communications, and future-focused planning.

  1. Helped reduce crime in Beverly Hills by nearly 20%, while strengthening coordination with the Beverly Hills Police Department and regional law enforcement. 

  2. Maintained Beverly Hills as one of the safest cities in the region by prioritizing public safety funding and resources.

  3. Expanded partnerships with the Beverly Hills Police and Fire Departments to improve emergency response and community safety. 

  4. Implemented BHPD Live Link and Drone in a BOX, improving transparency, reporting, and communication with the public.

  5. Led citywide emergency preparedness efforts, BH FireWatch, and evacuation drills to ensure Beverly Hills is ready for natural disasters, wildfires, and emergencies.
