“I am a public servant, and our community means everything to me. We need fresh and innovative thinking.”
— Dr. Sharona Nazarian
Mayor Nazarian’s Background
Dr. Sharona Nazarian is a proud immigrant, lifelong Beverly Hills resident of more than 30 years, and the current Mayor of Beverly Hills. With deep roots in the community, she is a dedicated public servant, accomplished community leader, and passionate philanthropic advocate who has spent her career giving back to the city that has given her so many opportunities.
Sharona’s commitment to Beverly Hills spans decades of civic involvement and leadership. As Mayor, she has made it her mission to prioritize public safety, listen closely to residents, and ensure that City Hall remains accessible, responsive, and accountable. She believes that strong local leadership begins with community engagement and works tirelessly to make sure residents’ voices are heard and reflected in city policy.
Previously, Dr. Nazarian served on the Beverly Hills Public Works Commission, where she focused on sustainability, infrastructure, and essential city services. During her tenure, she helped spearhead the Disposable Foodware Accessories Ordinance and supported the RethinkBHTap initiative, which promotes Beverly Hills’ high-quality drinking water while reducing reliance on single-use plastic bottles.
Dr. Nazarian was also appointed to the Climate Plan Community Task Force, where she continues to advocate for responsible environmental policies that protect the city’s future while preserving its unique character. Across every role she has held, Sharona remains focused on building a safe, sustainable, and vibrant Beverly Hills. A city that continues to thrive for generations to come.
Sharona is a former Co-Chair of the Beverly Hills Sister Cities Association and has participated in almost every single Beverly Hills homeless count since its inception. As a former Member and Past Chair of the Los Angeles Commission for Alcohol and Other Drugs, Dr. Nazarian re-drafted its mission statement and restructured the Commission and its long-term goals.
While serving as Chair and Member of the Beverly Hills Human Relations Commission, Sharona launched the Civility Statement that is read at the beginning of the Beverly Hills City Commissions, started the first cultural roundtable to bring unity to various faith based organizations in the community, and supported the anti-bullying campaign.
In addition, Dr. Nazarian has also served in numerous leadership positions in Beverly Hills clubs, organizations and non-profits. Sharona is the past President of the Rotary Club of Beverly Hills, Member of the Beverly Hills Police Chief’s Advisory Board, former Board Member of the Maple Counseling Center, former National Vice President of Friends of Israeli Disabled Veterans, past Board Member of Sinai Temple, Treasurer for the Beverly Hills Residents Association, past member of the Beverly Hills Women’s Club, Team Beverly Hills and CERT alumni, and former member of several Committees for the Jewish Federation of Los Angeles.
Sharona has brought a new perspective to the Beverly Hills City Council. She is innovative, creative, thinks outside the box and will work to build consensus on behalf of the community. Sharona is proactive in increasing safety and security, upgrading technology and working with our schools and families. Sharona will preserve the culture of our iconic city by enhancing our residential quality of life.
